45 Product Configurators: Making Engineered Products Easier to Specify

Buying an engineered steel product used to go like this. You send an email describing what you think you need. Someone replies with questions. You find the answers, a quote arrives, you realise the drawer heights are wrong, and the cycle starts again. Two weeks later you're about where you started.

In August 2026, OPIE Manufacturing Group launched a different approach: 45 online product configurators across seven brands. AMTIL CEO Lorraine Maxwell made the virtual "first click" during her visit to our Emu Heights factory. You can read about the launch here.

The problem with "just send us a quote"

Most delays in buying fabricated products don't come from manufacturing. They come from specification. Dimensions, load ratings, finishes, accessories and compliance requirements all need agreeing before a single sheet is cut, and each round of clarification costs days.

A good configurator removes most of that back-and-forth by putting the real options in front of the person who knows the job.

What we launched

The 45 configurators are spread across the group:

  • Boscotek: 9 configurators covering workbenches, high-density drawer cabinets and mobile storage
  • Bosco: 9
  • Lectrum: 8
  • OPIE Hub: 7
  • Argent: 6, covering the 10, 25, 40 and 50 Series racks, the V50 Data Vault and the Commercial Data Cage
  • WeaponsS: 5
  • Gilkon: ceramic steel whiteboard layout and product selection

How a configurator works

Real options, real constraints

Each configurator is built from the actual product range, so you can only choose what we can make. Pick a Boscotek workbench width and you'll see the matching drawer cabinets. Choose an Argent rack height and only compatible depths and accessories appear. That's the difference between a configurator and a brochure: it knows the engineering rules.

Pricing and documents

Depending on the brand, the configurator shows live pricing as you build and produces a PDF quote. The configurators for Boscotek, Bosco, Lectrum and Gilkon also provide BIM files for architects and designers working in Revit or similar tools: configure it and download the BIM file at opieiq.com.

Who it's for

  • Facilities and workshop managers who know exactly what their team needs and don't want to explain it three times.
  • Architects and specifiers who need accurate dimensions and model data early in design. Our new Architectural Manager, Denis Xiao, supports this group directly.
  • Procurement teams comparing options against a budget. Live pricing makes it easier to trade off features before going to approval.
  • Distributors and integrators who quote OPIE products to their own customers.

What configurators don't replace

Configurators handle standard and semi-custom products well. They don't replace engineering conversations for genuinely custom work: an SCEC Class B rack with 18 cable entries, a security shroud for a correctional facility or a stainless fixture made to unusual dimensions. For those, our engineers will still sit down with you, and with everything under one roof at Emu Heights they can usually turn a custom design around quickly.

Configurators also don't change how products are made. Every configured item is still laser cut, folded, welded, powder coated and assembled by our team in Western Sydney, under the same ISO 9001 quality system.

Try one

The fastest way to understand the configurators is to build something. Start in the OPIE configurator and choose a brand: Boscotek workbenches and storage, Bosco office storage, Lectrum lecterns, Argent racks or Gilkon ceramic steel whiteboards. Or browse the OPIE store.

SMC Stainless doesn't use a configurator: each SMC product page has a datasheet and DWG drawing to download and a quote request (SMC store).

Frequently asked questions

Are configured products made to order? Yes. A configured product is manufactured to your specification at our Emu Heights facility, using the same laser cutting, folding, welding, powder coating and assembly processes as everything else we make.

Can I change my mind after I download a quote? Yes. Save or rebuild your configuration and generate a new quote. Nothing goes into production until an order is confirmed.

What if my project needs something slightly different? Configure the closest standard option and tell us what's different. Our engineers can usually adapt a standard design faster than starting from scratch, because the design rules and tooling already exist.

Do configurators replace your sales team? No. They handle the routine work so our team can spend time on the projects that need an engineer's input.

Specify. Don't settle. And if what you need isn't in a configurator yet, tell us. That's usually how the next one gets built.
